Man United set to scout midfielder in game tonight, club want record fee, face competition for signing: report

Man United have eyes on Malick Junior Yalcouyé, with the Red Devils apparently set to watch the youngster his evening.

Manchester United have always done better when signing younger players and nurturing their talent, rather than splashing the cash on marquee additions. I get the impression that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS will try to return to that mantra during their Old Trafford tenure.

We’re now approaching the summer transfer window, with rumours now coming with increased regularity. Today’s story comes from Expresen, via the excellent Sport Witness. They claim United are eyeing IFK Goteborg midfielder, Malick Junior Yalcouyé.

According to the information, United are set to scout the midfielder in a game tonight, as IFK Goteborg take on Mjallby in the Swedish league.

However, Yalcouyé will not come super cheaply, as his club want a record fee to let him leave. That figure is set to be around the £7.5m mark. In relative terms, that’s not a wholly expensive asking price, though for a player who’d be drastically making a step up, it could be viewed as a gamble.

As you’d expect with emerging talents, United will not have it all their own way. Bayern Munich are also said to be interested, while representatives from Bavaria are also set to be in the audience this evening.

Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in Yalcouyé in the past. That should tell you everything you need to know about his talents.

This strikes me as eerily similar to the way in which United acquired Anthony Elanga. The winger is now an excellent player within his own right, albeit he is now playing at a level below the Old Trafford club. That said, Nottingham Forest have been pleased with his output and long may that continue.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Malick Junior Yalcouyé would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
