Man United remain ‘hopeful’ that Shola Shoretire will commit his future to the club, as his current contract winds down.

Not too long ago, Shola Shoretire was being touted as one of the next generation. The attacking midfielder was tearing it up at youth level, looking far too good for the age group.

However, as is always the case with teenagers, you just never know exactly how it’s going to pan out. It’s now fair to say Shoretire’s career has stagnated.

Now, his United future is in doubt. Shoretire has a contract that expires this summer, though the Manchester Evening News state United remain ‘hopeful’ the youngster will sign a new deal.

According to the MEN, it is becoming ‘increasingly likely’ that Shoretire, aged 20, will leave this summer, though the Old Trafford club aren’t giving up hope just yet.

Shoretire made his first-team debut three years ago now, though he hasn’t really kicked on from there. An average loan move to Bolton Wanderers hasn’t helped the young attacker. Nothing much has happened since…

Shoretire wanted to leave on loan in January, though a transfer away never materialised. Since then, the Newcastle-born playmaker has picked up an injury, which has further hampered his development and progression as a player.

At this point, if he was destined to make it in Manchester, Shoretire would have already progressed into the first-team. I understand why United want to protect their asset, but perhaps it’s best for all involved if the young man does walk.

Shoretire needs that new lease of life that a move away could deliver, while although it’s not a massive amount, United wouldn’t mind saving some money in terms of weekly wages.

Do you think Shola Shoretire is good enough to make it at Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
