Man United have eyes on Sporting CP centre-half, Goncalo Inacio, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United Football Club need help defensively. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the number one priority position going into the first transfer window under the ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.

Yesterday, we covered a claim from O Jogo which stated that United were ready to make their move to bring in Sporting CP defender, Goncalo Inacio.

A second source has now backed up that information, once again linking United with a move to sign the 22-year-old this summer. It’s Fabrizio Romano this time, who reckons that United, along with Liverpool, are ‘monitoring’ the player ahead of the summer transfer window.

A £51m release clause is once again brought up, while according to Romano, United are still ‘discussing internally’ about how many centre-backs they want to acquire during the coming months. At least one feels like a certainty.

Check out Fabrizio Romano’s X post on the news here:

His release clause is worth €60m.

First and foremost, United have an excellent working relationship with Sporting CP, so if the Reds are intent on getting this deal done, you’d hope that the two clubs could come to some sort of compromise over transfer fee.

Reds signings from Sporting have worked out well far more often than not. You look at the Bruno Fernandes signing a few years ago and you can date it back to the additions of Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo way back when. It’s why I have absolutely zero issue with the club spending big money to bring in the Portugal international.

First and foremost, I guess it comes down to sorting out Erik ten Hag’s future first. I’d imagine all transfer talks will be shelved until that’s decided.
