Man United ‘on verge’ of agreeing deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, €15m initial fee: report

Man United are close to sealing a sensational deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

About six hours ago, I was gutted. It looked for all the world like Cristiano Ronaldo was heading across town to Manchester City.

Pretty quickly, those sad thoughts turned into joyous ones. Out of nowhere, Manchester United pounced and a deal is almost done.

According to The Athletic, United are ‘on the verge’ of reaching an agreement to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. Yes, you read that correctly.

Their sources say the fee is €15m plus €8m in add-ons, with the 36-year-old Portuguese star looking likely to be heading to Old Trafford.

Apparently, City are ‘no longer interested’ in signing Ronaldo. Translation: Ronnie told them he’d rather return back to the Red side of Manchester instead.

Honestly, I’m just gobsmacked. I always thought this would never happen and it’s a rumour that somehow seems to pop up every single year. This time around, it is genuinely going to take place and I just can’t get my head around it.

Ronaldo is a United legend. He always will be regardless of where he ended up this summer. But coming back here? To try and help us win number 21. That takes guts.

Let’s be honest, if he wanted sure-fire titles he would have gone to City. However, out of loyalty to the club that made him who he is, Ronaldo is coming back home for one last dance and I’m over the moon.

Hopefully, the talks run smoothly between player and club and United act quickly. Let’s not forget we’re usually pretty slow when it comes to these transfer deals and Tuesday’s deadline is looming large.

Even United can’t mess this one up, surely?
