Man United have been given some good news on the fitness of Luke Shaw.

For Manchester United, the 2023/24 campaign can be defined by injuries. In spite of that, Erik ten Hag’s side managed to lift the FA Cup trophy, which is probably why the Dutchman has been given another season to prove his worth.

It can be argued that the left-back position was the hardest hit. Tyrell Malacia did not play one singular game last term. Who knows where he’s at with his recovery? Luke Shaw suffered his typical amount of injuries, which isn’t to be expected.

What left us all surprised was Shaw’s inclusion in the England squad. It looked like he was going to be fit enough to play games from the outset of the tournament, though that hasn’t happened. Presumably, the ex-Southampton man suffered a setback or two.

Well, United have been offered an encouraging injury update on the fitness of the key star. It comes from an unlikely source in England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, though Shaw has told his teammates that he is ‘ready’ to play, following months out.

Check out what Jordan Pickford had to say here:

‘He was ready to come on last night, but I’m not the manager.’ The England No 1 told talkSPORT, per the Daily Mail. ‘He’s ready. Luke says he’s ready.’

From an England standpoint, I’d love to see Shaw out there, though I do worry about the risk of re-injury. The good news is that Gareth Southgate is approaching it with caution and care.

For United, this is great news. Shaw is seemingly back fit in time to play a full part in pre-season, though the left-back will make a delayed return to United. The expectation is that the club will give everyone three weeks off, so when England come home from the European Championship, the Englishman will return to United training a few weeks after.

Shaw will likely miss at least a couple of United pre-season matches as a result, but assuming there are no further setbacks, he’s in a great place to be ready to go at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
