Man United make signing of 23-year-old midfielder a ‘priority’, now ‘confidence’ an agreement can be reached: report

Man United still want to make Manuel Ugarte their new defensive midfielder, despite a recent interest in signing Sander Berge.

Manchester United have plugged many holes within their current squad, though Erik ten Hag is still working hard to push another transfer or two over the line before the end of the window.

Attention has now turned to addressing the gaping hole within their midfield. Casemiro is looking every bit a player on the decline, while the Red Devils are trying to find some help for the man from Brazil.

It could come in the form of another South American. Football Transfers have provided the latest on the Reds’ chase of PSG’s Manuel Ugarte.

They state that United have made the signing of the 23-year-old midfielder a ‘priority’ despite recently testing the waters over a possible move to sign Sander Berge from Burnley.

PSG do not have Ugarte in their plans for the coming season, despite the fact he only joined the club just last summer. However, they remain firm on their £51m (60m euro) asking price.

Agent Jorge Mendes is now in England to discuss a potential deal for his client Ugarte, with the lines of communication remaining open for now.

Sources have informed Football Transfers that there is now a ‘confidence’ an agreement can be reached, but it’ll likely be towards the end of the transfer window – a time when United can barter for better terms.

There is an ‘acknowledgement’ at PSG that Ugarte will leave during this window, though United are not the only side at the table for the man from Uruguay. That could become problematic if another side firms up their interest with an official bid.
