Man United make ‘proposal above market’ to sign defender this summer, Reds willing to meet demands of selling club: report

Man United have made an official offer to sign Lille centre-back, Leny Yoro.

Manchester United have no choice but to sign at least one centre-half this summer, with the Red Devils having lost Raphael Varane and potentially Jonny Evans.

It feels like Jarrad Branthwaite is the preferred choice for acquisition in that area of the field, though the Englishman will not come cheaply. With money thought to be tight, INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe could look at some cheaper options.

Enter, Leny Yoro…

It’s Marca (in Spanish) with the claim. They believe that United have made a ‘proposal above the market (value)’ to sign Yoro from is current club, Lille.

On top of that, the Reds are willing to meet some demands of the selling club. Presumably in regard to the structure of the transfer fee etc. Apparently, the figure is around the £51m mark.

United will not have it all their own way, though, with Champions League winners Real Madrid also keen on signing Yoro this summer. They are said to have told the player to ‘wait’ and they have to resist temptation of a higher offer from another club in an attempt to wear the famous all-white strip of Los Blancos.

Decisions on Yoro’s future will be made in the ‘coming days’, though as things stand, it feels like no concrete choice has been made by the young teenager.

This move would be slightly cheaper than any deal for Branthwaite, though it does feel like there is more risk involved due to Yoro’s age and lack of Premier League experience. At the very least, you’d expect he’d need some time to settle in before starting games on a regular basis.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Leny Yoro would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
