Man United have told agent, Jorge Mendes, about their interest in signing Benfica striker, Goncalo Ramos.

Going into the summer transfer window, signing a new striker has to be the top priority for the Old Trafford club.

Cristiano Ronaldo has departed. Wout Weghorst is nothing but a stop-gap, while Anthony Martial simply cannot keep himself fit.

Several strikers have been linked with a potential Reds switch this summer, though it remains to be seen what sort of budget the United manager could be working with due to the club’s impending sale…

The latest player to be mentioned with a possible United switch is SL Benfica striker, Goncalo Ramos.

It’s Record (Saturday Print edition) with the claim, with Sport Witness providing the translation.

They say that United have ‘made known” their interest in the 21-year-old striker via his agent, Jorge Mendes.

Understandably, Benfica do not want to sell Ramos, with the club having ‘closed the door’ on a potential sale.

Ramos, who scored a hat-trick at the World Cup before the turn of the year, is seeing his individual stock rise at the moment due to some excellent performances.

Aged just 21, he’s a player that Ten Hag would be able to mould into one that fits his style of play, while he’d bring some more youthful exuberance to a United squad that’s playing without fear.

SL Benfica are under no pressure to sell, while Ramos is protected by a hefty £100m+ release clause at the moment, so the ball is truly in their court.

Again, this just feels like a case of United assessing all their options ahead of a huge summer transfer window.

Do you think a Man United move for Goncalo Ramos would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
