Tyrell Malacia has been included in Man United’s Europa League squad for their group stage game.
Manchester United Football Club saw their 2023/24 season decimated by injury. The Red Devils were dealing without many major players for far too long to be successful. Sadly, this term has started in a similar vein.
One man who hasn’t been involved for eighteen months is Tyrell Malacia. United have been weirdly tight-lipped throughout his whole injury saga, which leaves me worried about the Dutchman as it hints the club don’t really know what the issue is…
Well, there has been some positive news on that front today and it comes from Manchester Evening News journalist, Steven Railston. He has confirmed that United have included the long-term injury absentee in their 25-man Europa League squad.
The left-back hasn’t played since April 2023, missing the whole of the 2023/24 campaign. However, it looks like he’s trending towards a return.

United have limited spaces in these lists so there’s no way they’d waste a place on a player who they don’t believe could participate in some capacity. These matches are taking place between September and December, so it’s a wide timeframe for Malacia’s potential return.
Obviously, the club will approach this with great caution. The last thing they’d want to do is see Malacia sidelined for an even longer period of time due to the club rushing him back.
We’ve barely seen the Dutchman carrying out individual work so I’d guess at a possible return in November at the very earliest.
