Man United are reportedly interested in a possible transfer deal for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong. The 24-year-old midfielder hasn’t been entirely convincing in his time at Barcelona so far, despite looking a hugely talented prospect during his Ajax days.
Man United are now keen to offer nearly €55m to try signing Frenkie, with new interim coach Ralf Rangnick supposedly a big fan of the player. Still, the Blaugrana seem to value De Jong much higher than that, with the report suggesting it could take as much as €90m to persuade Barcelona to let the midfielder go.
It stays to be seen if Man United will be able to pay quite that much for Frenkie, but it could be a good investment in an area of weakness in the squad Ralf Rangnick has inherited from the Norwegian coach. Even if Frenkie hasn’t quite got going at Camp Nou, he could surely be an upgrade on inconsistent performers like Fred and McTominay in midfield.
Man United have just changed their manager and one imagines they could soon look to change a few footballers when the chance arises this winter.
