Man United have an ‘agreement in principle’ with Cody Gakpo ahead of the winter transfer window. PSV forward is a top target for Erik ten Hag, who could get his man once the two teams agree on a fee. The Netherlands international is having a sensational campaign for his club and country. Gakpo has already played 31 games for PSV and the Netherlands, scoring 17 goals and providing 18 assists. On paper, Cody is the most prolific forward in Europe for combined goals and assists. The Dutch attacker was likely to make a big move in his career back in the summer, but many factors kept him at Eredivisie giants. Some reports suggested Louis van Gaal wanted him to stay and keep playing regular matches rather than run the risk of rotation elsewhere. Secondly, there was the question about PSV’s willingness to let him go on the cheap. Eredivisie giants reportedly rejected a bid from Man United. They also snubbed advances from several other PL sides like Leeds United and Southampton. Many other top teams are reportedly watching the 23-year-old forward at the World Cup, but the striker could now be Man United’s to lose. He will cost a fair bit, as PSV would look at what the Red Devils paid for Antony in the summer. While there are no mentions of fees over €100m, Man United may have to pay nearly €50m to get their top target.
