Man United have opened talks with Everton, over the possible signing of midfielder Amadou Onana.
Manchester United Football Club are now in the middle of a pretty significant January transfer window. Erik ten Hag will be keen on moving out some dead-wood, particularly with fewer games now set to be played following the Reds’ European exit.
Donny van de Beek has left, while the likes of Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial could well follow.
On the flip side, I just assumed that there would be little-to-no money left in the bank at this stage for incoming signings, though Football Transfers seem to think different, with Everton’s Amadou Onana being eyed.
According to their information, United have ‘initiated talks’ with the Goodson Park club over the signing of the 22-year-old midfielder in the January transfer window.
Sources have told Football Transfers that Ten Hag wanted Onana in the summer, though had to settle for Sofyan Amrabat due to the lack of funds.
They’re also claiming that the money is there to bring in one ‘significant’ January signing, while the rest would be loan deals.
Ten Hag is a fan of Onana’s versatility, with the midfielder by trade also aisle to play all across the back line.
Before any money was spent, I just assumed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would undertake a full evaluation of the club, conducted by Sir Dave Brailsford.
However, it looks as though United are potentially willing to spend in this mid-season window, in order to push for a place in the top four (and next season’s Champions League). The FA Cup is also a competition that the Red Devils could look to try and win.
Football Transfers believe Scott McTominay could be used in any deal, with Everton having a ‘long-standing admiration’ in the Scotland international. There is an idea that a deal involving those two players could benefit all parties.
