Man United are all set to let Sofyan Amrabat leave this summer, despite having an option to buy the player outright.

Manchester United were forced into a couple of late loan signings on transfer deadline day last summer, with the Red Devils suffering injuries in key positions.

Sergio Reguilon was brought in at left-back from Tottenham Hotspur, while Sofyan Amrabat was acquired to bolster the midfield.

There was a high expectation around the Moroccan midfielder, with fans firmly believing he’d help transform that area of the field – and for the better.

Well, it’s fair to say that hasn’t really happened. Amrabat has ambled around the field without really making any sort of positive impact. He’s struggled with the pace of the Premier League, while his passing has been pretty poor.

Now, TuttoMercatoWeb have provided the latest on Amrabat’s future, with the translation coming via Sport Witness. They say that United will not trigger the £21.4m (25m euro) buy clause in Amrabat’s loan contract at United.

TMW explain that the decision was made a few days ago, with United having ‘decided to turn the page’ on the player, who is now all set to leave and head back to Fiorentina this summer.

Unless something ‘unforeseeable’ happens Amrabat will be moving back to Italy in May, which should be no surprise, given the fact he’s only started one game since returning from AFCON.

For all involved, it has been a disappointing loan move. Amrabat probably hasn’t had the impact he would have liked. United haven’t received the level of player they were expecting, while Fiorentina will suffer in terms of future transfer fee for Amrabat.

Sadly, this happens sometimes at the highest level.
