Man United are fans of Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, though they do not want to pay the current asking price for the defender.

It’s now well documented that heading into the summer transfer window, Manchester United seem intent on signing a centre-back of some description. Raphael Varane may well leave, while the futures of both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are far from certain. Factor in Lisandro Martinez’s injury issues and it’s pretty easy to see why the club want to bring in extra help in that area.

Several names have been linked with filling that void, including Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo. Those rumours started even before Sir Jim Ratcliffe, whose INEOS group owns Nice, bought a stake in the Old Trafford club.

It’s no surprise then, to hear that United remain keen on acquiring the French defender. 90min.com provide the latest information on that front, claiming that United will not receive any discount on Todibo, despite Ratcliffe’s links to the Ligue 1 club.

As things stand, United have ‘concern’ over the asking price for the 24-year-old transfer target, with Nice understood to be asking for between £47-51m to let their star centre-half leave.

Although a cheaper option to Jarrad Branthwaite, the Englishman is viewed to be the better value for money. 90min.com states that a final decision is yet to be made.

What’s interesting here is that Tottenham Hotspur, who are also keen on Todibo, are cautious over Nice’s current asking price. Most suitors believe the defender should be available for around the £34m mark, which is a significant drop-off from what Nice want. Perhaps some sort of middle-ground could be found…

Either way, it’s clear the Old Trafford side will bring in a central defender of some description.
