Man United are still admirers of Inter Milan right-back, Denzel Dumfries. It would take a huge bid to get the deal done.

Manchester United Football Club have a dressing room that’s slowly shifting into one that fits Erik ten Hag’s style of play. It’s going to take multiple transfer windows to complete that transformation.

One man the club have been linked with a move for previously is Denzel Dumfries. The Dutch right-back put in a super impressive performance for his country against the USA earlier this week.

He’s a player Ten Hag will know well, having competed against Dumfries while he played for PSV Eindhoven.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has the latest on Dumfries’ future via his YouTube channel.

He claimed that United have ‘appreciated’ the 26-year-old defender for a long time. With Chelsea also credited with an interest.

Dumfries’ impressive performances for club and country have only increased any prospective transfer fee, with Romano claiming it would take a ‘huge bid’ to secure this deal in the January transfer window. That fee is placed at the £40million mark.

Romano would stress that there are no negotiations ongoing currently, though as we all know, in football, that can change very quickly.

OTF’s verdict

Dumfries is a good player. There’s no getting away from that. However, consistency has always plagued his career and you never know what sort of performance you’re going to get on a game-by-game basis.

Is he better than Diogo Dalot? I’d say they’re similar in terms of natural ability. So there’s no guarantee Dumfries would come in and start games regularly. Can United really afford to drop £40m on a player like that? Particularly after spending so much this summer? I’m not convinced…
