Man United have 29-year-old on their ‘future agenda’ for transfer, would be surprise signing: report

Man United, somewhat surprisingly, have eyes on Real Sociedad goalkeeper, Alex Remiro.

Despite all the issues under the Glazer regime, Manchester United have actually had pretty good luck when it comes to goalkeepers. From David de Gea, to Sergio Romero, with a little Dean Henderson sprinkled in. All three enjoyed decent success.

The transition to Andre Onana was a bold one. The man from Cameroon cost big money, though he has displayed real inconsistency in terms of his performances. He definitely fits the modern-day playing style better than De Gea does, but he’s an infinitely inferior shot-stopper.

Marca (via Sport Witness) now believe that United are seemingly already looking to replace Onanam as they link the Reds with a move to bring in Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro.

Apparently, United are a fan of Remiro’s if they choose to replace Onana this coming summer. The report states that United have the 29-year-old on their ‘future agenda’ for a possible transfer.

This would certainly be a surprise signing, with the club apparently ready to give up on Onana after just one campaign. What makes this interesting is the fact that Onana cost £60m+. That’s a massive amount of money and I’d be surprised if the Reds were to get anything close to that fee back.

Remiro himself has a massive £60m+ release clause. Again, under the new regime, I’d be surprised if United were ready to splash that sort of cash on a goalkeeper.

More than anything, this just gives us an indicator of the fact that the club aren’t completely convinced Onana is good enough. He has certainly blown hot and cold all campaign long, costing the club goals but also making some massive saves.

Do you think Man United should move on from Andre Onana already? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
