Man United’s plans to sign Jarrad Branthwaite could have been scuppered by Real Madrid…

Manchester United transfer links to Jarrad Branthwaite have been plentiful since the turn of the year. There’s absolutely no doubt that the Red Devils have a serious interest in the Everton man, who has recently earned an England call-up.

Branthwaite has been an integral part of the fourth-best Premier League defence this season, so the Reds’ interest in the defender makes 100% sense given the current situation at Old Trafford.

However, according to GiveMeSport, United have been handed a ‘potential blow’ in pursuit of the defender, with a certain European giant showing ‘genuine’ interest in bringing in Branthwaite.

Their journalist, Dean Jones, reiterated that Branthwaite is United’s top defensive target this summer, with the Reds ahead of Chelsea in the race.

Everton are holding out for £80m for Branthwaite’s signature with Real Madrid now ready to test their resolve, with Carlo Ancelotti said to be a big fan of the Englishman.

There can be no doubt that Branthwaite has to seriously consider Real Madrid as a possible destination. Just look at the success Jude Bellingham is having over in Spain. I guess it all comes down to whether the player would prefer to remain in England, or move overseas.

In terms of current standing in world football, a move to Madrid has to be more lucrative. They’re challenging for major trophies every single season whereas right now, United are not.

This is genuinely concerning as a fan of both United and Branthwaite, though this is why the club has to explore multiple options, rather than focusing all their attention on one target.
