Man United are keeping close tabs on Boca Juniors defender, Aaron Anselmino.

It appears that a new central defender is among Manchester United’s top priorities heading into the summer. The Red Devils continue to be linked with names aplenty in that area of the field, as Erik ten Hag looks to ensure his team gets younger at that position.

Jarrad Branthwaite, Leny Yoro and even Matthijs de Ligt all fit that mould. Today’s story comes from TYC sports, who continue the pattern of young centre-halves being mentioned in the same breath as the Old Trafford club.

They believe that United have eyes on defender Aaron Anselmino; a Boca Juniors player.

According to the claim, United are ‘following’ the 18-year-old centre-back ‘closely’, having already made inquiries about potentially making a move for the player.

It’s stated that as things stand, Boca are ‘calm’ about the situation, due to the fact that Anselmino has recently signed a new contract that’ll see him stay at the Argentina club until 2028.

Anselmino has only played seven league games for Boca at this stage, though the club continue to expose the young defender to first-team minutes as he continues his development. His talent is summed up by the fact that the club already view the defender as a future Argentina international.

United have often struggled when signing South American players, though it’s a strategy that our local rivals City have done well of late. Look at Julian Alvarez, who was brought in for a minimal fee and is now one of the best forwards in the Premier League. Gabriel Jesus’ arrival in the Premier League was also a similar story.

If the fee is right and Anselmino is a truly attainable transfer target, then this could well prove to be a smart piece of business if the club could somehow pull it off.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Aaron Anselmino would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
