Man United are looking at moving for Joao Palhinha this coming summer.
Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has made some astute signings as boss – with the Dutchman set to continue his squad overhaul going into this summer.
Regardless of who is in charge when June rolls around, this club has to back the best manager they’ve had post-Sir Alex Ferguson.
Several names have been linked with an Old Trafford switch already. No doubt many more will follow over the coming months. Today’s rumour comes from The Sun on Sunday, linking United with a potential move to sign Joao Palhinha.
Apparently, United are ‘eyeing’ a summer move for the 27-year-old Premier League midfielder – though they’ll face hefty competition.
The likes of Newcastle United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are all ‘monitoring’ the Fulham man, though Marco Silva is understandably keen to keep ahold of their key player.
Fulham paid just £17m to bring Palhinha in from Sporting CP just last year, with the value of the player at least doubling since that point. He still has four years on his contract, meaning the eventual winner of his signature will have to pay a premium.
Palhinha strikes me as someone who’d come in to add more squad depth, replacing Scott McTominay’s minutes in the squad – although the Scotland international did play well against Southampton in that second half yesterday.
The Portugal international would be a decent bit of business, though it’d hardly be spectacular. I guess the fact that Casemiro nor Christian Eriksen are getting any younger means that an extra midfielder certainly could be of some use… though paying £40m+ for a rotational option doesn’t seem like the best value for money, particularly when the Reds will have to spend big on a striker.
