United seeking centre back to replace Maguire Manchester United are attempting to sign a centre-back as Harry Maguire edges closer to leaving the club. West Ham submitted an improved offer for Maguire on Monday and United have accepted the offer in principle. United have always regarded a defensive-minded player as the likeliest fourth addition of the summer and sources stressed that if Maguire leaves he will have to be replaced. The 24-year-old is under contract at Leverkusen until 2024. Jonny Evans, 35, is not viewed as a sufficient replacement to Maguire and his short-term contract expires before the end of August. Greenwood training data considered United are receiving data from Mason Greenwood’s training sessions as they prepare to clarify his future. Greenwood, 21, has been pictured and filmed training in public parks. The sessions have been overseen by a former United junior coach who has conducted individual sessions with United youngsters Kobbie Mainoo and Dan Gore. United are due to communicate their decision on Greenwood’s future after a six-month investigation before the start of the season. United’s first fixture is at home against Wolves on Monday evening. Greater Manchester Police announced on February 2 that Greenwood no longer faced criminal proceedings. Greenwood had been charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault, but the Crown Prosecution Service has dropped all charges against the United forward.
