Man United are supremely keen on signing Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton this summer.

Manchester United interest in Jarrad Branthwaite is nothing new. The Red Devils have been keen on the Everton man for multiple months now. It’s easy to see why, given the Englishman’s performances over the last twelve months.

Branthwaite is emerging as one of the hottest prospects within the English game, for an Everton side that are in a relegation battle as things stand. He has been the standout performer.

Now, TEAMtalk have provided the latest on Branthwaite’s situation. They state that United are still ‘extremely interested’ in signing the 21-year-old centre-back.

Branthwaite, who has just earned his first England squad call-up, excelled at PSV Eindhoven on loan last term, before coming back to Everton and making himself one of the first names on their team sheet.

Everton have the fourth-best defensive record in the league, helped by Branthwaite, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe making a centre-back his top need going into the summer.

What’s interesting is that there is an ‘expectation’ Branthwaite will leave Everton during the upcoming transfer window and while Chelsea are also showing an interest, United appear to be the front runners at this stage.

However, United have now learned the hefty asking price for Branthwaite. Everton want at least £80m to let the Englishman leave. Money is already tight for United at this moment in time, so it’d be interesting to see if the Reds are prepared to cough up such a large amount to bring the defender in.

With Raphael Varane possibly leaving, both Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire not getting any younger, United need a centre-back. Branthwaite is the top target, though I’m not sure we’ll see the club spend a large portion of their budget on one player, particularly when there are many holes to fill.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Jarrad Branthwaite would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
