Man United express interest in signing 21-year-old attacking starlet, face heavy competition: report

Man United are showing an interest in signing Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester United need some quality signings this summer. The Old Trafford club are still light in some key positions, with the Red Devils looking to strengthen the playing squad for Erik ten Hag.

Money is thought to be tight, so United may have to sell before they can buy. All the action may not start until after the European Championships, with players away representing their countries.

One man who the Red Devils are looking at is Netherlands attacker, Xavi Simons.

It’s L’Equipe (subscription required) with the latest information on that front. According to their sources, United are among the sides who have expressed an interest in signing the 21-year-old attacking starlet.

However, the Reds will face heavy competition, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich all keen on bringing in the Paris Saint-Germain forward.

Simons spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig, scoring ten goals across all competitions. He looked impressive whenever called upon, while his form was enough to earn him a start for the Netherlands in their opening European Championship match over the weekend.

Simons would be a top-tier signing in a position of need (right-wing), though I do worry that United do not have Champions League football on the table, while the other interested parties do offer that to the young Dutchman.

Money could also be a problem. If a bidding war starts, United do not have the fire-power to compete on that front this summer – unless they make a couple of major sales.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Xavi Simons would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
