Man United duo Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw don’t report for England duty amid fitness problems – Manchester Evening News

Marcus Rashford has withdrawn from the England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, while Luke Shaw has not yet reported for duty.

The Manchester United pair were set to join team-mate Harry Maguire in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the final international break of the year but did not meet up with the rest of the team on Monday due to varying fitness issues.

Rashford, who has only recently returned from injury after undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer, will remain in Manchester in order to concentrate on regaining full fitness, a statement from the FA said.

The Telegraph also reports that the forward came down with a bout of illness last week that saw him miss training on Thursday and Friday ahead of Saturday’s meek defeat to neighbours Manchester City.

Shaw, meanwhile, did play in the match but had to be substituted in the 73rd minute after suffering a blow to the head.

While he hasn’t yet dropped out of the squad completely, he is currently following concussion protocols with United and will continue to be monitored to see if he can join up with the squad at a later date.

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is in a similar situation as he has been delayed from joining up as he recovers from dental surgery.

Southampton talisman James Ward-Prowse, however, has been ruled out completely due to illness, with Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe called up to the senior squad for the first time.

The Three Lions will be hoping to seal qualification for the 2022 World Cup when they take on Albania on Friday, November 12, at Wembley before then travelling to face San Marino on Monday, November 15.
