Man United could be in the hunt to sign Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.
As has been the case for each of the last couple of transfer windows, Manchester United have a Paul Pogba situation on their hands.
The mercurial Frenchman is entering into the final year of his contract, with the possibility that he could leave this summer a very real one.
In the event that happens, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side seemingly have a back-up plan in the form of Nicolo Barella.
The midfielder currently plies his trade for Serie A champions Inter Milan, with Barella also enjoying an excellent EURO 2020 championship with Italy.
According to Calciomercato, with the translation coming from Sport Witness, Barella is in contract talks with Inter, with those discussions said to be in the ‘preliminary phase’.
That’s where United (and Liverpool) come in. It’s said there are ‘sirens in the background’, with the two English sides amongst a handful of teams who are sniffing around to see whether Barella is available. It’s worth noting the midfielder’s current deal doesn’t expire for another few seasons.
It’s written that United could pursue a move to sign the classy 24-year-old midfielder ‘in the event of Pogba’s sale’. Again, it’s worth noting that this could well happen, as the Red Devils won’t want to lose such an asset for free in twelve months’ time.
Sport Witness issue a word of warning with this one, claiming this could be Barella’s camp pushing United’s name into the mix in order to secure a better contract for his client at Inter.
However, it cannot be denied that Barella would be a lovely piece of business if United’s interest is indeed genuine.
