Man United confirm academy graduate with 50+ club appearances will leave upon contract expiry

Man United have confirmed that academy graduate, Brandon Williams, will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract.

Manchester United are seemingly trying to free up some money in the weekly wage budget, before going after their summer transfer targets. The club also have to sort out Erik ten Hag’s future first.

We knew that Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial would depart upon expiry of their contracts, though today, we have learned the identity of another exit on a free transfer; Brandon Williams.

The club have confirmed that the academy graduate, with 51 appearances for the club, will leave this month when his contract winds down.

Williams spent last season on loan at Ipswich Town, making 17 appearances as the Tractor Boys earned promotion back to the Premier League.

I always thought Williams’ versatility made him a pretty good asset, while the full-back is still only 23, meaning his best years are likely ahead of him. Unfortunately, he just got pushed out by the likes of Diogo Dalot, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, meaning he would have always seen limited playing time.

Williams is certainly a Premier League calibre footballer so I seriously hope a club does take a punt on the Harpurhey-born-defender. He’s a red through and through who has been at the club since the age of nine, and we supporters have to remember that while thanking him for his loyalty over the last decade-plus.

When the rubber meets the road, this is probably the right decision, but I genuinely wish Williams nothing but the best going forward.

Do you think letting Brandon Williams leave is the right decision? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
