Man United have eyes on AS Monaco midfielder, Youssouf Fofana.

Casemiro hasn’t looked anywhere close to his best this season. Sofyan Amrabat hasn’t had the intended input. Christian Eriksen is injured. Manchester United’s midfield is the latest area to be decimated in pretty much every single sense of the word…

Erik ten Hag is no doubt scratching his head after his central players performed so well last season. It’s disappointing to see how easily bypassed United are in the middle of the park right now.

It makes sense, then, to see United linked with potential signings in that area of the pitch. Journalist Fabrice Hawkins believes Youssouf Fofana could be the player that Ten Hag turns to.

According to his information, United are ‘closely monitoring the evolution’ of the 24-year-old midfielder who is also being eyed by Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

His current contract is winding down, expiring in summer 2025, meaning any potential suitor could look to make a move shortly, in order to take advantage and try to sign him on a cut-price deal.

Fofana is extremely mobile, superb on the ball and good in possession. He ticks all the required boxes that a top Premier League midfielder needs, while the current AS Monaco man is improving all the time for the Ligue 1 club.

There’s no doubt he’d be a direct upgrade as soon as he walks through the Old Trafford entrance door, though I have my doubts about whether United could afford a deal under the current regime, particularly in the mid-season window. Obviously, that would all change if Sir Jim Ratcliffe buys a stake in the club, but even then, the Reds will not possess a bottomless pit of money due to FFP.

Do you think Youssouf Fofana would be a good signing for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
