Man United have Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos on the top of their list as they have been looking for a centre-forward in the winter transfer window. The arrival of Antony from Ajax looked to have completed Man United’s strikeforce as Erik ten Hag seemed quite happy with the arrangements at the club. But one after another drama unfolded as Man United’s hapless showings in front of the goal almost derailed their campaign. The Dutch coach will now take the help of the January transfer market and would request another centre-forward to improve his squad. Man United hierarchy injected substantial funds into their summer transfer budget and they will have to survive with a very limited transfer kitty next month. Benfica president Rui Costa already made it clear they won’t be forced in selling the footballer and unless they are getting a like-minded offer they will keep hold of the footballer. The footballer does have a mammoth release clause to the tune of €120m but the belief is that a deal can be done at a much lower price. Goncalo’s strong presence in the World Cup already alerted a number of clubs and his hattrick against Switzerland was one of the monumental moments in the tournament. The 21-year-old centre-forward has come through Benfica’s youth academy and scored 28 goals in 80 appearances. Man United spent over £200m on Antony, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Malacia in the last transfer window.
