Manchester City are reportedly open to completing a sensational transfer for Cristiano Ronaldo after Harry Kane confirmed that he will remain at Tottenham beyond the summer transfer window.

England captain Kane issued a statement on social media on Wednesday to thank supporters for messages of support following his first game since Euro 2020. He also revealed that he would remain at Spurs, despite strong and public interest from Man City.

The Premier League champions are keen to sign a new striker after losing iconic figure Sergio Aguero at the end of the season. The Argentine has joined Barcelona after his contract expired at the end of June.

City boss Pep Guardiola has even gone as far as openly admitting the club’s interest in adding Kane to his star-studded squad. However, Spurs remained firm in their stance that Kane would not be sold.

It has been widely reported that City made two bids for Kane, including one worth around £137million. Both were knocked back by the North Londoners.

Kane was open to leaving his boyhood club in pursuit of silverware but City will now turn to other targets to replace Aguero.

Legendary forward Ronaldo is apparently open to leaving Juventus this summer and has been linked with an incredible move to City, which would see him turn his back on former club Manchester United.

ESPN report that City have ‘not dismissed’ signing the Red Devils hero from Juve if the opportunity presented itself.

Ronaldo has just a year remaining on his contract with the Italian side, who endured a tough 2020-21 campaign.

They relinquished their decade-long grip on the Serie A title, with Inter Milan topping the division for the first time since 2010.

Juve finished a lowly fourth and former midfielder Andrea Pirlo was dismissed as boss soon after the end of the season.

Ronaldo arrived at the club in 2018 following a record-smashing nine-year spell at Real Madrid.

He previously become a heroic figure at City’s rivals United, winning three Premier Leagues and a Champions League.

Ronaldo was previously further down City’s list of targets for their striker role but has seemingly moved up since Kane’s declaration.

Guardiola’s side looked toothless up front in their opening Premier League fixture against Spurs, in which Kane did not play due to fitness issues. Son Heung-min scored the only goal of the game.

However, City looked much better in their 5-0 thrashing of Norwich City on Saturday. £100m British record signing Jack Grealish scored his first goal since signing from Aston Villa.

Kane will not be Augero’s replacement, not least this summer.

He promised supporters that he would remain at Spurs beyond the transfer deadline, and was appreciative for their support as he made his return to action against Wolves on Sunday.

“It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I’ve had in the last few weeks,” he wrote on social media.

“I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success.”
