Man City told they have an ‘almost unfair’ advantage in Premier League and Champions League – Manchester Evening News

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves says it is “almost unfair” the amount of attacking options that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has to call upon within his arsenal.

Hargreaves made the admission after watching City beat German outfit RB Leipzig 6-3 in a Champions League thriller at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening.

All six of City’s goals came via different sources, with defenders Joao Cancelo and Nathan Ake joining the likes of Jack Grealish, who impressed on his first appearance in the competition, and Gabriel Jesus on the scoresheet.

Ake opened the scoring with a brilliant header, rising highest to meet Grealish’s corner, whilst Cancelo lashed home a spectacular effort from distance to net Guardiola’s side’s fifth of the contest.

With City having now scored 16 goals in their last three home matches, and goals being scored from all areas of the pitch, former United man Hargreaves has jokingly admitted that it is “unfair” the number of options that Guardiola has available to him.

He told BT Sport: “From full-back, they’ve got so many weapons; Kyle Walker, [Oleksandr] Zinchenko and I just love Cancelo. If you think about it, for Pep, Raheem [Sterling] came off the bench and [Ilkay] Gundogan came off the bench.

“He has got so many good weapons and they’ve got such an array of attacking options in every position it’s almost unfair.”

City have now scored 16 times in their last three outings at the Etihad, with Guardiola having overseen back-to-back 5-0 victories over both Norwich City and Arsenal prior to the international break.

With the Blues in such a rich vein of goalscoring form on their own patch, Guardiola has pleaded with City’s supporters to turn up against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

The City chief told BT Sport: “I would say the last three games we played here we scored 16 goals. So I would like to come more people next game on Saturday, we need the people next Saturday. Please.”
