Manchester City were originally not interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo but have since performed a U-turn, according to reports. The Juventus star previously spent six years across town at Manchester United. But, despite his love of the Red Devils, he’s now on the cusp of moving to the Etihad Stadium instead.
Manchester City could be about to pull off the biggest signing in their history.
Ronaldo is very much a target for Pep Guardiola as he looks to win both the Premier League and Champions League this season, despite his previous affiliation with Manchester United.
The Juventus star is eager to leave Turin behind after three years in Italy, and it’s a move to the Etihad Stadium that presently looks the likeliest scenario.
And ESPN claim that, initially, City weren’t interested in signing Ronaldo when he was offered to them earlier in the summer.
However, Harry Kane has changed things.
Kane was City’s top transfer target and has been throughout much of the summer window.

“Why? Because my heart’s in Manchester United, that’s why.
“I can say it would be very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very difficult to play at Manchester City.
“Very difficult because of Manchester United.”
But that hasn’t deterred City and, now, they’re close to finalising an agreement with Ronaldo’s entourage.
Some have claimed the veteran has even been offered back to Manchester United, 12 years after he quit Old Trafford for Real Madrid.

But the Red Devils don’t appear to be interested, paving the way for Ronaldo to move to the Etihad Stadium instead.
European football expert Julien Laurens thinks Ronaldo isn’t compatible with the way Guardiola wants to operate.
But he still feels they’re willing to do a deal if it means winning the Champions League trophy they crave the most.
“The question is fair – is Ronaldo really compatible with Pep’s football, with Pep’s philosophy? I think we all agree it’s more a ‘no’ than a ‘yes’,” he said.
“But you know he’s going to score a lot of goals because they are going to create so many chances for him, even if he doesn’t do all of the pressing and all the counter-pressing and movement that Pep asks of him.

“We know Pep is going to leave at the end of his contract in two years’ time so it’s a short-term option anyway.
“Maybe if you go down that route then you also make it work for Cristiano in the short term and maybe it’s Pep who is also going to adapt a little bit to having Cristiano in his team, as much as Cristiano adapting his own game to what Pep wants.”
And Laurens thinks a move to City ‘will happen’.
“If you are Juventus and you know City want him and you know that City have been sat on £150m that was ready for Harry Kane, Juventus need that money to come in so they don’t make a loss on the whole Cristiano Ronaldo time at the club,” he said.
“I think this one will get sorted pretty quickly. I think this one will happen.”
