Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of the Central Asian Region of Turkmenistan, has appointed his only son, Serdar, as the new Deputy Prime Minister.
The appointment of Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the post of Deputy Prime Minister was announced this morning. The president said that his son would be in charge of innovation in his office.
The 39 year old Serdar has previously served as a member of parliament in the country and as governor in Ahal.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took over as President of Turkmenistan in 2006. The president controls the government and Serdar will serve the president directly. There is no Prime Minister in the country.
Turkmenistan is very rich in oil resources but the country has a population of about six million.
