Maguire: We got there in the endVideo

The England international, following our sixth clean sheet in 10 games, spoke to MUTV after the fifth-round triumph.

“Yeah, we got there in the end and I feel we deserved it,” Maguire told reporter Stewart Gardner.

“We felt comfortable on the pitch, I felt in the first half we played with intensity and dominated the game, played the game in their half and had chances where we should be one, two, three [up]. We just needed four for us [to score].”

Maguire was pleased with another solid defensive display as we kept the London outfit quiet at the Theatre of Dreams. The Hammers have enjoyed a strong campaign in the Premier League this season and find themselves sixth in the table above the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

In particular, the captain was proud of another shut out against tough opposition.

“It’s massive. I think we have six in 10 games, if I’m right off the top of my head,” the defender said, before praising the team’s ability to bounce back.

“When we’ve conceded, we’ve conceded too many, when we concede one it seems to be two. It was three against Everton. That’s not good enough for this club.

”We were disappointed at the weekend, we felt we deserved the three points but we couldn’t feel sorry for ourselves. We knew we had to come here tonight and bounce back and get that momentum back on our side ready for Sunday.”

The defender is yet to lift a trophy as United captain, but Maguire hopes this will be the season where he gets his first taste of silverware in a red shirt. Last campaign, Ole’s men reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League and Maguire is keen to go one step further this time around.

“Last season, it was disappointing to lose in the semi-finals like we did, but we’ve got to win trophies. We’ve got to demand that of each other. We do. We demand that we win trophies and it’s vital the team starts winning trophies, for the club and the fans as well.”

The draw for the FA Cup quarter-finals will take place on Thursday night. So far this year, the Reds have played every game in competition at Old Trafford. Maguire hopes that will continue when the next round comes around in March.

“Yes, of course. We love playing at this ground, and we’ve got to make it tough for people to come here and get results. We need to get better and we seem to have improved a little of late. But no, obviously, we want a home game,” he said.

“We fancy our chances against anyone, we just need to look after ourselves, perform well and assure that we start winning trophies at this club.”
