Luke Shaw writes his name into United history books after fine feat vs. Brighton

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has earned a place in an exclusive club group following the win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday. He becomes just the fifth outfield player in the history of United to start every match of a Premier League campaign. Three goalkeepers have also managed the feat. He was followed in quick succession by Denis Irwin (1993/94) and Gary Pallister (1994/95) in the following two seasons. Notably, the iconic United trio accomplished this during 42-game seasons, when the Premier League had 22 teams. It took 25 years for another outfield United player to replicate the trick – Harry Maguire in 2019/20. Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana was the last man to start every league game for United (2023/24). Other shot-stoppers who did the same were Peter Schmeichel (1992/93) and David de Gea, who did it three times – 2018/19, 2019/20, 2021/22 and 2022/23.
