Luke Shaw set to be sold in the summer after Amorim loses patience with injury-riddled star – report

Manchester United could part ways with their longest-serving current player in the summer, with Ruben Amorim reportedly ready to sell Luke Shaw.

The Portuguese tactician is in desperate need of a reliable figure to play the crucial left wing-back role in his 3-4-3 formation, but the injury-plagued Shaw has only managed 68 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Amorim opted to bring the 29-year-old off the bench to play as an outside centre-back in his first two games in charge, but since then the Englishman has been unavailable yet again.

According to GIVEMESPORT sources Amorim has lost patience and has “refused to rule out the possibility of offloading Luke Shaw in the summer.”

The news comes amid reports that United are in hot pursuit of Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu for a January transfer, and even if they miss out on the young Dane the odds are heavily in favour of an arrival in that position.

This is expected to be bad news for Shaw, with GMS noting that United’s “determination to bolster their left wing-back options midway through the campaign” leaves the Englishman “facing an uncertain future.”

The report adds that there is a “serious possibility that Amorim will sanction his departure if he attracts interest in the summer.”

Shaw is undoubtedly a quality player on his day, but his woeful fitness record is a huge black mark against his name.

This combined with his high wages – £200,000 a week when bonuses are triggered – means it is far from certain that the player would be the subject of any attention from other clubs.

The report continues that Amorim selling Shaw in the summer is “plausible” and the decision to revamp United’s left flank “is in danger of sparking further exits”.

Dutch full-back Tyrell Malacia is also expected to be a casualty of this approach, and is reportedly able to leave on loan this month if a replacement is secured.

Shaw has been at Old Trafford since 2014, when he was signed for around £30m from Southampton. He is the longest-serving current player, and has two and a half years left on his contract.
