As one left-back at Premier League giants Liverpool faces up to a spell on the sidelines, another has this evening proved himself ready to fill the void.

Firmino at the double Jurgen Klopp’s men are of course currently in the process of stepping up their preparations for the new campaign.

Ahead of a season opening meeting with Norwich City this weekend, the Reds scheduled a pair of friendly fixtures versus Spanish opposition over the last 24 hours.

Last night came a showdown with Athletic Bilbao, which ultimately ended at a goal apiece, after Alex Berenguer cancelled out Diogo Jota’s early opener.

Tonight, meanwhile, Liverpool again act as hosts, in a clash with Osasuna.

And, with 45 minutes played on Merseyside, the Premier League heavyweights have made crystal clear their superiority, en route to a dominant 3-0 advantage.

The scoring was opened when Takumi Minamino found the net with a quarter of an hour on the clock, before Roberto Firmino’s double added some gloss to the scoreline before the interval.

Tsimikas steps up To this point in the action at Anfield, however, it is not the name of brace-hitter Firmino which has grabbed the headlines.

Instead, this honour has gone to a pair of other Reds stars – Takumi Minamino and Kostas Tsimikas.

The former has enjoyed a stellar evening, playing his part in all three of Liverpool’s goals, whilst linking midfield to attack with guile and confidence.

It is the latest display of left-back Tsimikas which will no doubt prove most encouraging for Jurgen Klopp and co., though.

The Greek, fresh off the back of a difficult debut campaign in England, has looked a man rejuvenated in pre-season, with his wonderful first-time delivery from the left having teed up Roberto Firmino’s first versus Osasuna.

Kostas Tsimikas has come good just at the right time for Liverpool. Excellent so far in pre-season & just laid on another assist following a motoring run, quick interchange & pinpoint cross. Really does soften blow of Andy Robertson injury… #LFC

And Tsimikas’ return to form could not have come at a much better time, on the back of an update surfacing regarding the wellbeing of Andy Robertson.

As per the reliable James Pearce of The Athletic, after picking up ankle ligament damage during Liverpool’s meeting with Bilbao last night, the Scottish international looks set for a spell of ‘weeks’ on the sidelines:

Told Andy Robertson set to be out for “weeks rather than months” with ankle ligament damage which feels like positive news given how bad that injury initially looked yesterday.https://t.co/fMzWLwuxwC
