Light at the end of the tunnel for United: Brentford preparing for life after Mbeumo as bid finally submitted – reports

Manchester United have been trying to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for over a month now, with little success.

Their first bid went in on June 4, worth an initial £45 million plus £10 million in potential add-ons. The Bees swiftly rejected that proposal.

The London side were holding out for around the same fee Wolverhampton Wanderers earned from Matheus Cunha’s sale to the Red Devils. The Brazilian had a £62.5 million release clause.

United’s second bid was worth an initial £55 million plus another £7.5 million in add-ons, taking the total to £62.5 million. But Brentford rejected that as well.

They have been playing hardball ever since, communicating through their sporting director that the Cameroonian could stay at the Gtech Community Stadium if his valuation is not met.

Mbeumo saga

Reports have stated that the Premier League side now want close to £70 million, with the 20-time English league champions still far apart in terms of valuation.

INEOS have remained confident of tying up the deal before the first team’s departure to the United States for their pre-season tour. And there are signs that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

As per The Daily Mail‘s Tom Collomosse, the Bees have bid £35 million for Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson. That is supposed to be his release clause.

“Brentford bid £35m for Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson. Believe that would trigger his release clause,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Why is this significant? As per the reliable Fabrizio Romano, Hutchinson is viewed as a possible replacement for Bryan Mbeumo in case he leaves to join United.

“Brentford are showing initial interest in Omari Hutchinson as possible replacement for Bryan Mbeumo in case of exit with Man Utd on it.

Hutchinson holds the key

“Brentford appreciate Hutchinson but no club to club talks yet with Ipswich Town,” was what the Italian had said.

This indicates that Brentford are preparing for when they eventually lose their talisman. Hopefully, INEOS can now get the deal over the line.

Brentford will not find it easy to land Hutchinson however, as his clause has seemingly expired. Ipswich are set to demand more, but the player is keen to move.

As things stand, only once this particular deal is wrapped up, can United expect to get their man.
