Lewis Hall: Man Uniteds pursuit takes fresh twist after Eddie Howe exit

Manchester United have reportedly reached a major transfer decision on Lewis Hall amidst their search for a left-back.

Left-back hunt

Tyrell Malacia’s exit as a free agent means that Luke Shaw is currently the only natural and senior left-back on the club’s books.

While Shaw defied expectations by starting every Premier League match last season, his injury record means United cannot bank on a repeat. And at 31, with demands on the squad only increasing, reinforcements will be essential.

Harry Amass, who was brilliant in the 5-0 hammering of Rosenborg, is likely to leave this summer amidst his desperation for regular first-team minutes. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are prepared to accept as little as £6m for the Carrington academy graduate.

Hall has emerged as a key target for United if they are to dip into the market for a left-sided full-back. It was recently claimed that the Red Devils are long-term admirers of the player, who is eager to leave Newcastle and take the next big step in his career.

It’s understood that Hall’s time at Newcastle was complicated by a difficult relationship with Eddie Howe, who has shockingly resigned from his position.

Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun has now revealed exactly how this dramatic development at Tyneside alters United’s pursuit of Hall.

Hall update

Luckhurst writes, “Manchester United are weighing up a move for left back Lewis Hall amid the latest disarray at Newcastle.”

“United consider Hall, 21, to be the ideal long-term replacement for Luke Shaw, who is out of contract next year.”

The Sun explain that Hall blames Howe for missing the World Cup, citing a position switch triggered by Tino Livramento’s injury as the decisive factor.

But it’s far from guaranteed that Hall will move to Old Trafford this summer. He could be persuaded to stay at St James’ Park depending on who succeeds Howe in the dugout.

Hall made 30 Premier League appearances last term, helping Newcastle keep five clean sheets in that period. He also scored one goal.
