Bryan Robson joined Ron Atkinson’s Reds back in 1981.

Robson knows what it takes to produce the goods consistently in the engine room at United, after making his British record £1.5million move in 1981 eventually look like an absolute steal.

“Some players take a little bit longer than other players,” he explained. “I think the problem for Donny, at the moment, is trying to impress the manager and get straight into the team when Bruno Fernandes has been playing magnificently.

“In the way he plays, they are very similar roles, and then the re-emergence of Paul Pogba over the last couple of months, before his injury, has been really good. Paul was playing how we know he can play and so that made it very difficult to get Donny into the team. But I’ve been impressed by some of his qualities. I can see he’s a worker; he’s just got to be a little bit patient.

“When he gets his chance [like against West Ham], he has got to impress Ole, as the manager.”
