Man United centre-half, Harry Maguire, may not be involved for England this summer due to injury.

Manchester United’s season has been defined by injuries. We have to be honest. Treatment table woes left us trailing in the wake of rivals in the hunt for Champions League football. It may end up costing Erik ten Hag his job…

The Dutchman was missing multiple key players for pretty much the whole campaign, while the centre-back position was probably the one that was hit the hardest.

Lisandro Martinez missed pretty much the whole campaign. Jonny Evans picked up niggling injuries, as did Harry Maguire.

The Englishman was probably the Reds’ most consistent centre-half throughout the campaign, though he has been sidelined since April and sadly, he missed the FA Cup final as a result.

Naturally, we just assumed Maguire would be back fit in time to take part at Euro 2024 with England. However, that may not be the case.

According to the Daily Mail‘s headline on the story, the key Man United star is now a ‘significant doubt’ for the tournament due to injury, with Maguire not yet back fit after picking up that problem a couple of months ago.

Doubts are now emerging about Maguire’s fitness, with the centre-back expected to miss the final warm-up game against Iceland tomorrow evening.

There is now ‘significant uncertainty’ about his place in the final 26-man squad, which makes sense if he’s simply not fit to play. It’d be a massive disappointment for a man who has put his body on the line for United on more than one occasion this summer. Quite frankly, it’d be a cruel end to his season.

For England, it’s a massive blow. Maguire has been a regular for his country for multiple years now and replacing him will not be easy for Gareth Southgate.

Let’s hope the defender can get himself back out on the pitch in time to prove that he’s worthy of a spot in the squad.
