Man City star John Stones has backed Harry Maguire to overcome his struggles at Manchester United and get back to his best very soon.
Maguire, 28, has been slammed after United’s shaky start to the new season, with the club captain publicly criticised for poor defensive performances which have piled the pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The England international has looked well off the pace on numerous occasions so far this season but retains the full support of his manager at a difficult time for the club.
International teammate Stones also believes Maguire has been unfairly treated, and although he believes performances haven’t been as bad as made out, he is convinced the United captain has what it takes to put things right quickly.
Stones enjoyed a solid outing in City’s 2-0 victory over Maguire’s United last Saturday before the international break.
“Harry is an incredible person, first and foremost, and a strong character at that, so I have no doubt that he will come good for Manchester United,” Stones told talkSPORT.
“I don’t want to say that he’s not playing well, because I actually think he’s doing so many things right, but it’s just gets magnified and sometimes taken out of proportion.
“I am not passing the blame or anything but as a character and person that I know, I do believe that he’ll be the incredible player that he is and be back to that very soon.
“He’s got that character and mentality to get back to how he was and I believe he will.”
