Jesse Lingard sends emotional message to Manchester United fans

Jesse Lingard has sent a message expressing his pain at his unfortunate role in Manchester United’s defeat to Young Boys.

Lingard gave the ball away for Young Boys’ 95th minute winner with an ill thought out backpass.

The Manchester United midfielder says he is ‘upset’ about his role in the loss.

Time to move forward

United have a game this weekend against West Ham, the club where Lingard spent part of last season on loan.

He will be desperate to be involved and start to right the wrongs of the Young Boys loss.

Lingard was a second half substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo and struggled to get into the game, playing an unclear role as 10 men United tried to see out the match.

He stayed silent about the result after the game, taking his time to gather his thoughts. Lingard deserves our support. While his backpass was both terribly executed and ill advised, it certainly wasn’t intentional.

It came when his United career was looking up. Lingard scored his first United goal in 13 months just days earlier, and netted twice for England the previous week. He needs the opportunity to bounce back quickly.
