Jadon Sancho can secure 2026 Borussia Dortmund return on one condition – report

Manchester United’s decision to invest a fortune in Jadon Sancho in 2021 eventually came back to haunt them. The Red Devils were seeking to add more firepower to their attack and secured the Englishman’s signature from Borussia Dortmund after a prolonged pursuit. Sancho had emerged as one of the most exciting young footballers at the Signal Iduna Park and was expected to take the Theatre of Dreams by storm. Unfortunately, the player failed to live up to expectations with the Premier League giants. Sancho’s Old Trafford nightmare Sancho struggled to cement his place in United’s starting XI during his debut campaign, although the managerial turmoil at the club did not help his cause. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was removed from his position later that year, with Ralf Rangnick brought in to steady the ship. Erik ten Hag was handed the reins of the first-team squad the following summer, but Sancho’s fortunes failed to improve. The Englishman had a fallout with the Dutch manager in the summer of 2023, which was perhaps the start of his troubles. After unsuccessful loan spells at Dortmund and Chelsea, Sancho moved to Aston Villa this summer on a season-long loan to resurrect his faltering career. Unfortunately, he has struggled at Villa Park this season and is yet to register a goal contribution in eight games in all competitions. A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person stated that Dortmund were not considering a move for their former player in 2026, but it now appears that the door is not entirely closed yet. Dortmund set condition for move According to the Mirror, Dortmund will only consider Jadon Sancho’s return next summer if he is willing to take a substantial pay cut. The Englishman reportedly earns around £300,000 per week at United, but that figure is beyond the Bundesliga club’s budget. Dortmund’s highest earner is Gregor Kobel, who is on weekly wages of £150,000. As such, if Sancho is to secure a return to the Signal Iduna Park, he will have to take at least a 50% pay cut. The Englishman is reportedly ready to move to the Bundesliga, where he enjoyed tremendous success with Dortmund. The German side are also willing to have him back, especially as he could be available for free, and believe they can help him regain his old form. United have already upgraded their attack this summer, and Sancho is no longer part of their plans. The former City graduate, who managed just 12 goals in 83 games for the Red Devils, could end his stay at Old Trafford in 2026.
