BACK Denmark Under 18 head coach Morten Eskesen has confirmed that Manchester United transfer target Chido Obi-Martin is still without a club after leaving Arsenal. The 16-year-old has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford and, speaking to Danish sports magazine Tipsbladet, Eskesen said “it’s only a matter of time” before the striker finds a new team: “I spoke to him last week and asked him if he was fit for the fight and injury-free. He was, and he is in between jobs. Right now, he doesn’t have a club, but it’s only a matter of time. A lot happens in the transfer window.” “When I read about him, they have been queuing up to get him. I’m sure a man with that talent will have no trouble finding a club. It might be more about which club he chooses.” Premier League approval is needed for the move to go ahead Reports have confirmed that United are expected to sign Obi-Martin, with the deal having been brokered by the head of youth recruitment Luke Fedorenko and the head of the academy Nick Cox. However, due to the player’s age, the Premier League will make the final decision on whether the transfer can be finalised. Why are United so keen to land Obi-Martin? The teenager has been scoring goals for fun at academy level for Arsenal. Last season, he scored 32 times in just 18 games for the Gunners Under 18s. Despite being 16, Obi-Martin also made appearances in the UEFA Youth League and the Under 21 Premier League. It is, therefore, understandable why Arsenal were so desperate to keep him, having offered him a new contract. However, it is believed that, after considering proposals from several other Premier League teams, the striker ultimately decided that a move to Manchester was the right one for him.
