FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has claimed that he is happy with his current squad but has not closed the door to a move for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
The England international has not played for the Red Devils since the 12th of December against Viktoria Plzen.
The 27 year old was actually booed by the United away end that day and has not played for the club since, as he has been omitted from every playing squad except against Newcastle United, where he still didn’t make it off the bench.
It has been rumoured that he is likely to leave the club on loan this winter with AC Milan, FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund all credited with an interest in the attacker.
Milan seem to have taken a back seat in discussions lately however, leaving Barcelona and Dortmund as the two main competitors for his signature.
Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s match against Getafe tonight, their manager Flick was asked about the possible signing of Rashford, with just over two weeks of the window left.
“Rashford? I always say I am happy with the group, we only have 3 injured now.”
“I have to say that we are working independently of the medical staff… It depends on Deco but I’m happy with the team.”
As usual, the public comments made by managers are not too committal but the German hardly closed the door on any deal in a story that will likely rumble on until the end of the window.
It has been relayed here that Flick is the main driving force behind Barca’s interest in the player with some at board level not one hundred percent convinced by the winger.
In addition Barcelona are not in a financial position to simply do a deal as they have been reported to be aiming to get rid of Ronald Araujo or Ansu Fati to make space in the squad for the Englishman.
United fans will dearly want clarity on the situation soon as they are keen for their own club to make a signing or two to boost the side for the second half of the season as they aim for FA Cup and Europa League glory and to push themselves closer to the European spots in the league.
