Inter Milan’s Champions League midfield hero wants to leave, United ready to swoop – report

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim needs to add quality to his midfield following Christian Eriksen’s departure, and Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi has emerged as a potential option.

There is also uncertainty surrounding Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo’s future, which explains why the Red Devils are eyeing midfield reinforcements.

The Italian was quite the goal magnet for the Nerazzurri, managing seven goals as well as two assists from only 16 starts across all competitions, including huge goals in the Champions League against Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

But the 25-year-old was far from happy with his lack of minutes, and following Simone Inzaghi’s departure to Al-Hilal, the former Sassuolo ace is also looking for an exit.

Davide Frattesi has emerged as an option

Sky Sports have claimed that the Red Devils have expressed their interest in his services, as have Atletico Madrid, but the Italy international wants to stay in the Serie A.

There is interest from former club AS Roma as well as league winners Napoli, with Inter open to a sale for €35 million.

“Affected by Simone Inzaghi’s departure to Al Hilal, Davide Frattesi is more than ever considering leaving Inter Milan this summer.

“Disappointed by the lack of playing time he’s received this season, given his high-level performances—particularly against FC Bayern and FC Barcelona in the Champions League—the Italian international has sent a clear message to his professional entourage: begin discussions with potentially interested clubs to expedite his departure.

“Currently, the reigning Italian champions, Napoli, are favourites. While Napoli must finalize several midfield departures, Antonio Conte has already identified Davide Frattesi as a priority in that area.

“For now, the Italian midfielder is prioritizing Serie A and has no plans to leave the local league, even though Manchester United and Atlético Madrid have recently expressed interest in his profile.

Davide Frattesi does not want to leave Italy

“As for Inter Milan, the Nerazzurri leaders have set a fee and will demand 35 million euros before opening the door to negotiations, confirming that they will not give any gifts to their Neapolitan rivals.”

Davide Frattesi can play as an advanced No.8 as well as an attacking midfielder and has quite an eye for goal, with the midfielder scoring at least seven goals in each of his last three seasons.

Given United’s lack of goals last season, Amorim could do with additional goalscoring options, which explains the sudden interest.

But his price tag and unwillingness to leave Italy makes it unlikely that a deal with materialise this summer given INEOS’ funds crunch. Which is why the co-owners are prioritising a loan deal this window.
