The injury suffered by Donny van de Beek could be a pretty serious one, according to Erik ten Hag…
Manchester United picked up a huge victory at home to Bournemouth on Tuesday night, with Erik ten Hag’s side continuing their extremely positive momentum at this current time.
The Old Trafford club are playing some good stuff, with the Dutchman even having the luxury of resting some players for the match under the Old Trafford floodlights against Bournemouth.
As a result, a rare opportunity was given to Donny van de Beek. The ex-Ajax man, who worked with Ten Hag over in the Netherlands, started in place of Antony. He was having a steady game, before going down with injury…
It looked like a pretty serious problem as soon as it happened, with Van de Beek on the end of a pretty poor tackle.
After the match, Ten Hag couldn’t say definitively how serious the problem is, though he did admit that the injury to the United star ‘doesn’t look great’.
When asked about the severity of the injury, Ten Hag responded:
“No, that is too quick. We have to wait and then you can make the right diagnosis, so the medical team have to do their work. But it doesn’t look great.” Ten Hag told ManUtd.com.
“What has happened to Donny is bad, in the first place, for Donny but also bad news for Manchester United, if it is a bad injury.”
Van de Beek just cannot catch a break. Yes, he hasn’t been good enough on the whole, though if this injury is even semi-serious, it just sets him back even further.
The confidence levels will drop even more, while we may not see him for a few months as a minimum. Who knows, this could literally be a season-ending injury…
In terms of the biggest picture, I’m just not sure where Van de Beek goes from here. I’d imagine there’s probably no way back for him at United if this is a season-ender.
The problem is, I’m not sure they’ll be any clubs out there willing to take a punt on him, so United could effectively be stuck with a player who commands pretty big wages. It’s just a sad situation all-round…
