INEOS take definitive call on the next permanent United manager, Carrick will be beaming – report

While things have improved on the recruitment front since INEOS came on board, the Manchester United co-owners have not enjoyed the same luck when it comes to their managerial appointments. Keeping Erik ten Hag on after the unlikely FA Cup triumph was a bad call, given the Premier League form exhibited by the team under the Dutchman. And then replacing a manager reliant on playing on the transition with the help of wingers, with Ruben Amorim, whose system had no space for out-and-out wide men, was ludicrous. The Portuguese struggled to impose his rigid 3-4-3 system, which included playing three at the back and two wingbacks, as the Red Devils sank to new depths under him. Amorim did not suit United United have historically been known for their wingers, while playing a traditional four-man defence. And as per The Daily Mail, the 20-time English league champions seem to have learnt their lesson. INEOS will target a left winger in the coming summer as they plan to stick to four at the back while going back to employing traditional wingers. “The left winger market is going to be one to pay closer attention to in the coming months with United likely to stick to a back-four system regardless of whether Carrick remains in charge or not.” With United likely to name a new permanent head coach once the current season concludes, this news will serve as a blow to those managers who stick with three at the back, like Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola, and Roberto de Zerbi. INEOS won’t make the same mistake again Either the aforementioned trio will need to tweak their systems, or else INEOS will continue their search elsewhere. Interestingly, this will boost Michael Carrick‘s chances of remaining at the helm. Not only has the former England international started in stunning fashion, but the caretaker head coach also knows the club’s ethos well from his playing days. United return to action next weekend, with a home clash against Fulham. Carrick will be desperate to ensure the momentum does not slip.
