“In the next hours…”: Fabrizio Romano reveals details of secret transfer meeting between Carrick and INEOS

Despite the stunning Manchester derby triumph, Manchester United could still do with reinforcements across the park. Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo bossed the midfield, but amid Manuel Ugarte’s struggles, it is clear that Michael Carrick could do with better options. Ruben Amorim’s sack came about when he was denied funds to strengthen in January, but it seems INEOS have softened their stance since. Given the good job done by Carrick so far, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that an internal meeting will take place to discuss the possibility of bringing players in before the January window closes. Internal transfer meeting The plan remains the same — most top targets are unlikely to jump ship in the middle of the season, but a market opportunity or a short-term acquisition could be the way forward. “I wanted to mention something on Manchester United. Because in the next hours, I would say, at the very beginning of this week, there will be an internal meeting at Manchester United, involving also the ideas of Michael Carrick. “That is not Michael Carrick who decides, but Michael Carrick, who started his Manchester United chapter in a fantastic way, by winning the Manchester Derby, showing very good energy, very good football. “But at the same time, Carrick will be involved in the conversation with Man United to decide on several situations, what they want to do on the market from now to the end of the January transfer window. Michael Carrick could do with added quality “If they want to go and try and get a player for an opportunity, maybe in midfield, maybe in other positions, maybe a striker. So they need to assess and decide with Michael Carrick, or continue with the current squad and invest in the summer.” There are murmurs that ex-Wolves star Ruben Neves might be a target, while even a loan signing cannot be ruled out. An attacking signing could also be explored, but only if Joshua Zirkzee departs. An interesting end to the window awaits the club.
