Manchester United have always admired Harry Kane – it’s hard not to given his remarkable goalscoring and the Red Devils’ long-running problems in that area.
In recent weeks the 32-year-old has been linked with a return to the Premier League after moving to Bayern Munich two years ago, with United thought to be at the head of the queue.
Incredible goalscorer
Kane scored 280 goals in 435 games for Tottenham Hotspur during an awesome spell in North London which brought him everything but a major trophy.
The Englishman long ago cruised past United legend Wayne Rooney to become his country’s top goalscorer, scoring 74 times in 109 games on international duty.
With the Red Devils short on goals in the summer of 2023 they were heavily linked with a move for Kane.
Instead, United opted for the younger and much less established Rasmus Hojlund, who completed a loan switch to Napoli this summer after a disappointing spell at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile Kane moved to Bayern Munich where he has scored a mind-blowing 103 goals in 106 games.
Kane thriving in Germany
The Express relay that Kane has a clause in his agreement in Bavaria which allows a £56.7m departure next summer, with Spurs holding first refusal.
But when asked about the future, the 32-year-old said “in terms of staying [at Bayern Munich] longer, I could definitely see that.”
He added that he has not yet discussed a new deal with the German giants, but that he “would be willing to talk and have an honest conversation” about one if and when the opportunity arises.
While admitting that it depends on how things go this season, Kane said: “Right now, I would say we are in a fantastic moment and I am not thinking about anything else.”
Based on his performances so far – 18 goals in 10 games – and Bayern sitting four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, it looks like this campaign will be another success.
Premier League return less likely
The million-dollar question for United is whether he would be open to a return to the Premier League – to which he said simply “I don’t know”.
He expanded: “If you had asked me when I first left to go to Bayern, I would have said for sure I would come back. Now I have been there a couple of years, I would probably say that has gone down a little bit, not so much, but I wouldn’t say I would never go back.
“What I have learnt in my career is that different opportunities and different timings happen and things fall in place. Going back to my first point with Bayern right now, I am fully all in with Bayern.”
Putting any rumours to bed, at least for now, he concluded: “I am calm, I love the manager at Bayern, I think he is fantastic and as always in my career as long as we are improving and I am improving then I am happy to see what we can achieve.”
Addressing his possible next career move he said: “I think MLS is too early for sure the way I feel right now, the way I am playing right now. The MLS would be something later in my career when I am thinking about the last couple of years or so.”
