“How mad was that?” Harry Maguire recalls the moment that defined United’s Europa League campaign in tell-all interview

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire reflected on his experience to date in what has been a thrilling Europa League campaign.

With the all-important final against Tottenham Hotspur set to get underway tomorrow night, Man United will need to forget about their poor Premier League form as they prepare to fight for victory at the Estadio de San Mamés.

But while the season as a whole has been massively disappointing, United’s form in Europe has been phenomenal, with the team emerging as the only squad in any UEFA competition to still be undefeated in Europe this season.

As everyone at Old Trafford counts down the hours to tomorrow night’s critical clash, Maguire sat down with former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves to reflect on the season to date.

“Our form in the Europa League has been really good, we’ve had some amazing ties” 🙌

“Obviously, you’re in a final with Manchester United. It’s been quite a tricky season. It must be a privilege, I think, looking forward to a final like this,” Hargreaves began.

“No, definitely,” Maguire replied. “Yeah, for sure, it’s been a tricky season, very disappointing season. We’ve come into the Europa League these past weeks. But then I must say our form in the Europa League has been really good.”

“We’ve had some amazing ties. We’ve made hard work of some, especially the Lyon game,” he acknowledged.

“How mad was that?” Hargreaves interjected, expressing his shock over the thrilling encounter.

“Honestly, the emotion that you add in playing the games, being 2-0 up at half time against them and then find yourself 4-2 down,” Maguire continued.

“Out of nothing really coz in the game even up until 78 minutes we felt so comfortable and then bang bang, you’re 2-2. It was so nice that we were able to turn that one around,” Maguire sighed.

“Bilbao was a little bit more comfortable,” he continued, referring to the semi-final tie with Athletic Club. “Probably the red card made a big play in that in the first leg.”

“It’s been a good run and one more step to go,” Maguire concluded.

With the likes of Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee and Diogo Dalot all appearing in training ahead of the final, United will no doubt be hoping to field the best possible lineup on the night.

After all, they will surely be hoping to avoid any hiccups. While the Lyon comeback may have been impressive, United manager Ruben Amorim will surely hope that his team can wrap up the victory without any unwanted surprises.
